Rather than setting goals of what you want to DO this year, decide who you want to BE this year. Here's something that will help you do it: Choose one word that represents who you want to be by the end of the year, or what you hope God will do in your life, and focus on it for the next 12 months. Make it your banner for the year, your filter, your vision.
To pick your word, consider what kind of character reflects who you want to be. Then write a list of character traits. Ask: how do I want people to think of me? What do I want them to experience as a result to interacting with me? Maybe it's strength? Authentic? Patience? Peace? Intentional? Then just pick one. Resist the urge to try improving them all!
Last year I really felt I wanted to be more “present”. In the moment, alert, and not distracted. This year, I’m going with “Listening” – really HEARING people – and God.
It's a simple exercise that will keep you on track to be coming the YOU you were created to be. I hope it's an amazing year!
