Fair Season Is Here! (Safety Tips and List of Local Fairs)

Day41 TieDie 330

Fair season is officially here!! (There are 3 fairs just this weekend! Scroll down to see the list of local fairs!). As fun as fairs are, they can also be overwhelming, especially when you are bringing excited, adrenaline-filled kids along! One way you can make your kids easily identifiable in a large crowd is with tie-dye shirts. Here is a link with instructions to make your own tie-dye shirts: instructables.com

BusyToddler on Instagram said “Good parents lose kids and good kids get lost.” It’s terrifying to think about losing a child, but it’s a lot less terrifying when you know your family has a game plan!

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind:

Make a game plan with your child. Tell them to follow these 3 steps if they ever get separated from you.

  1. Stop moving – It’s a lot harder to find a moving child
  2. Look for a Family – From the spot where you’re standing, look for a family that has kids and go directly to them and ask for help. Identifying a staff member is great too but it’s much easier for kids to identify another family.
  3. Get Loud – Loudly tell that family that you are lost so that everyone around them knows that you are looking for help.
  4. YOU [parent] Get Loud Too – This is not the time to get embarrassed. Start shouting the description of your child so everyone around can help. For example, 'Little girl, pink shirt, Minnie Mouse. My child is lost!'

Bonus Tip: If you are going somewhere where you think there is going to be a lot of people, like a fair, sporting event, or amusement park, or even just shopping, TAKE A PICTURE of your child before you walk in. You will have a recent photo of them wearing the exact outfit and hairstyle/hat they’re in.
