These Are the Days of Summer

Start a Micro Business

Day45 StartAMicroBusiness 330

Hi there! I’m Emmanuel Montojo, the co-op student working at CHRI Radio this summer. I hope you’ve been enjoying our These Are the Days of Summer blog. In today’s post, I wanted to talk about something different, something that is both an activity and a taste of entrepreneurial life.

Everyone in the world was born with a unique set of talents gifted to us by God. Keeping that in mind, I challenge you to start a micro business based on what gifts you have been given. Starting a micro business is a great way to learn about being an entrepreneur at a smaller level while making money at the same time. I started a micro business back in 2020 by making rosaries and now I’m tutoring and providing both piano and guitar lessons.

You can take on your business in many different ways. Are you a talented musician? If so, you can follow my lead by offering your own private lessons on whichever instrument you have mastered. Or if you are more hands on and love to get them dirty, you can try providing services such as mowing, weeding, and raking.

When you start a micro business, you will learn how to manage money. You will also have to learn the art of advertising in order to reach as many people as possible. Use flyers, word of mouth, social media, or make a website using wix.com. For example, here is my website for my music lessons business: emmanuelmontojo.wixsite.com/montojo-music. Running a micro business also teaches responsibility and organization, which are very important skills in life.

There is a lot you can learn by starting a micro business and it’s a great way to earn money while doing the things you love. For more on starting a micro business, here is a link that shows some of the books my school, Academia Stella Maris, used to teach the business class (we used the books Starting a Micro Business and Micro Business for Teens Workbook): microbusinessforteens.com. Hope you have a great rest of your summer and a blessed school year ahead.

God Bless,

Emmanuel
