Having kids can help you recall some valuable life lessons. I find myself saying this one alot these days: “You can either be right OR have someone to play with.” It’s typically: One lays out exactly how the game HAS to go (is this a first-child thing?!) and the other eventually decides that all his impeding rules aren’t making it fun anymore so she leaves to go do something different and he's unhappy because now he doesn't get to play with her at all.
You have different views from your neighbour and your co-worker, even a family member at a birthday celebration. And you have a decision to make: You can either put your foot down and insist you're always right or you can find something you and your friends or family agree on and you'll always have people in your life who are there for you.
It seems like a basic life-skill yet it's been hard one for kids and adults alike.
In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in ancient Rome he said “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
Choose peace over being right. ‘Cause if you insist on winning every time, you'll end up playing alone.
