Hey, Care here, with this week’s Monday Motivation quote.
I just heard this one from theologian and apologist author Tim Keller: "When work is your identity, if you are successful it goes to your head, if you are a failure it goes to your heart."
What if your identity, instead of being in your work, it's being in the God you were created to work for? To give Him glory in what you do, and honour those around you because He has called you to that?
I try not to allow my definition of ‘success’ and ‘failure’ to be decided by this world and our culture. This world and our culture are ever-changing... and not always for good, so when circumstances change (which they will!) I risk losing my humility, my purpose, or even relationships... I risk losing who I am. Instead, as a follower of Christ, I prefer to measure “success” by whether I am faithfully using the gifts and talents God has given me to glorify Him and serve the common good.
Instead of making work my identity, my identity is in something that doesn’t waver... in Christ.
Again “When work is your identity, if you are successful it goes to your head, if you are a failure it goes to your heart." That's only if it's your identity. It doesn't have to be.
