Rachel Adjeleian—Reflecting on the Light of Christ

Advent2021 Rachel 330

After four Sunday’s of Advent and preparing for the coming of our Lord and Saviour, it is time to rejoice in His birth and the way that it forever changed the course of humanity. Jesus came as a Light into this world, and nothing was the same!

When we really think about it, the story of Christ is a miracle that few could have predicted. Prior to Jesus being born, the Israelites expected their Messiah to come as a powerful individual who would save their land and people. But in God’s amazing plan, He sent His only begotten Son into the world as a vulnerable baby, who would grow up and not just become King of Israel, but the Son of Man to reign over the entire universe.
The last day of Advent is a day where we reflect on the Light that Jesus brought into the world. A world that had been strife with conflict and darkness, was met with a beacon of hope when baby Jesus was born. God had a plan for redemption seen in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, and on Christmas we light a Candle to remind us that with Him, the old has passed away and all things have been purified and made new.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

In 2020, the Light of Jesus became radically apparent to me, personally, when I was introduced to God. Meeting Jesus felt like I was seeing the Light for the very first time. A life that had been rooted in a deep uncertainty about the nature of existence, was suddenly changed when I learned about the unfailing love of God. My sin became apparent, yet God’s grace became even more apparent, and I fell in love with Jesus and His goodness.

I was Saved by Grace! So, what came next?

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Coming to the Light of Christ also spurs a life of continually seeking truth and walking in that Light.
For me, this has been learning more about who I am in Christ through His Word and prayer, and relying on His grace as I walk in that truth. It has been about trusting God with every aspect of my life, and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform me so that He may be glorified, and so that others can come to know his amazing Grace.

To follow Jesus is to walk in the Light – and with light, darkness cannot live. When Jesus lives inside of you, you are filled with His Light and His righteousness. I pray that you would rejoice in this truth, let YOUR light shine, and deLIGHT in the Lord this Christmas!
