Like many others, my heart is breaking amidst the devastating wildfires in Australia. An estimated 1 billion animals have lost their lives, at least 20 people have perished (but that number is expected to grow), and hundreds of homes are lost. It is in these times that I’ve found that fighting bitterness can be hard. Fighting the anger and the question of “why” consumed me for months as Australia was being consumed by the heat of uncontrollable flame.
After about 3 months of Australia burning, it finally started to gain more traction in the media. This brought even more devastating images to the surface, but when I looked hard enough I realized that there were a lot of beautiful things to be seen among the heartbreak and the chaos. But don't take my word for it - see below for yourself.
After many prayers, parts of Australia were struck by some much needed rain. Firefighters rejoiced through dance!
Many animals did flee the fires in time, and other animals like Rock Wallabies boroughed safely underground. However, these animals were left without any food. The National Parks and Wildlife Service of New South Wales decided to take matters into their own hands by airdropping thousands of kilograms of sweet potatoes and carrots to the starving animals.
Two cousins filmed a brave rescue they initiatied as they drove around in their car to rescue koalas.

As the bushfires continue to press on, please keep praying for rain.
The Australian Red Cross is helping to support thousands of people in evacuation centres and recovery hubs across Australia. The organization is also providing emergency grants to people to help cover the costs of their immediate needs. You can donate to the Australian Red Cross here.
