Ottawa-Gatineau Tornado Relief Efforts

Assistance:

  • The City of Ottawa will host information sessions for residents affected by last Friday’s tornado and windstorm.

    For affected residents in the Gloucester-Southgate and River wards:
    Friday, September 28
    5 to 7 pm – Greenboro Community Centre, Studio A and B, 363 Lorry Greenberg Drive

    For affected residents in the Knoxdale-Merivale ward:
    Saturday, September 29
    11 am to 1 pm – Woodvale Pentecostal Church, Main Auditorium, Entrance 1, 205 Greenbank Road

    For affected residents in the West Carleton-March ward:
    Saturday, September 29
    3:30 to 5:30 pm – West Carleton Secondary School, Cafetorium, 3088 Dunrobin Road

    Visit ottawa.ca if you cannot attend, or to see what will be addressed at each info session.

  • Shelters, Food/Water Access (to locate a food bank dial 2-1-1):
    • West Carleton Secondary School – 3086 Dunrobin Rd.
    • Canterbury Recreation Complex – 2185 Arch St.
    • CEGEP de l’Outaouais Gabrielle Roy campus – 333 Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes

  • Information about the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians Program is available at Ontario.ca/disasterassistance .
  • For Ottawa good vouchers, call OntarioWorks and go through a brief interview process so get social assistance.
    1. Call the City (dial 3-1-1)
    2. Select 1 (if she wants English)
    3. Select 4 for Social Services
    4. Select 3 for OntarioWorks
  • Gatineau residents impacted by Friday's tornadoes, can pick up emergency supplies in Hull, including clothing, personal hygiene products and non-perishable food items. Donations are being distributed from the former Sears location on the ground floor of Les Galeries de Hull on Saint-Joseph Boulevard. (use the Sears entrance in the underground parking garage near Montclair.) Items are only available so far, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. until Friday.

 

How To Help:

  • Samaritan’s Purse is here with their International Disaster Relief team to assist with the tornado clean-up. Homeowners who need assistance can call 1-844-547-2663.
    Samaritan's Purse is still deperately in need of volunteers, whatever your skills! (no tools necessarily, basic training and safety equipment will be provided). Please visit one of their deployment sites at any time of day (even if you only have a couple of hours available): The Met Bible Church (2176 Prince Of Wales Drive) or Woodvale Pentecostal Church (205 Greenbank Rd)   www.samaritanspurse.ca 
  • Those wishing to donate clothing, furniture or other household items in Ottawa are being advised to drop off donations at Salvation Army thrift stores or request pickup of larger items by calling 1-613-247-1435 ext. 228.
  • Arlington Woods Church suffered significant damages. Please keep our brothers & sisters, and the Arlington Woods neighbourhood, in prayer and stay up-to-date on the church’s rebuilding and clean-up efforts here: www.arlingtonwoods.ca
