8 Goals for Africa Video

I hope you had an awesome Canada Day!  The fireworks were incredible!! World Cup fever is still well underway. I am amazed at what time people are getting up to watch a game – that is dedication.
It's also very excited for the World Cup to be held in Africa for the first time. This has really given an opportunity to many organizations to shed even more light on the Africa's struggles and share with the world how they can help.

I wanted to share with you a wonderful song that looks at 8 goals for Africa. This movement called 8 Goals for Africa is an advocacy campaign started by the United Nations in South Africa. Director of the UN's Information Centre in South Africa, Marie-Evelyne Petrus-Barry explains the idea of the song, and the importance of focusing on these goals during the World Cup: "While the whole world is watching towards South Africa with the World Cup coming up, we felt that sport is also linked to development. Soccer is the most popular game in Africa. That is also the place where the MDGs are the least met."

The '8 GOALS FOR AFRICA' music video will be screened throughout the World Cup, across all the Fan Parks and Public Viewing areas. On the day of the finals, all 8 artists will come together to sing the song in a live performance at the Soccer City Fan Fest in Johannesburg

Eight of Africa's best known musical artists sing about one goal each. The artists and children in the video express so much joy! Joy that hopefully one day can be felt by all of Africa. You can read the lyrics here.
