Expectation vs Reality After a Not-So-Good Weekend

On Saturday I was in Montreal with a group of friends at La Ronde Amusement Park. It was a great day! We grabbed Starbucks on the way out of Ottawa, chatted about what was happening in our lives on the way down, found the park with no problem with the help of "Holly" our GPS, parked the car and headed into the park for a day of screaming and laughter.

We had plans to attend another friend's party after the park so the trunk of our SUV was packed with outfit changes. After an awesome day of thrills and yummy food we headed out to our car to change and head over to see our other friends.

However, when we arrived at the car a very different scene was upon us; our back window had been shattered and personal items had been taken. It was a feeling I had only experienced a few times in my life. We quickly calculated that my purse and overnight bag had been snatched. Phone call to the police, credit cards cancelled (yes they were used before we got to cancel them) and stressful moments of me realizing all my things are gone.

I felt like I had been punched. Expectation vs reality. That was not how I thought the day would play out.

We zipped down to the police station while my incredible friends continued to make phones calls, taking care of everything for me. Expectation vs reality. Feeling like you have nothing and realizing you have the most amazing people in your life.

Sunday evening I received a Facebook message from a girl in Montreal.  She explained that she works on same island as La Ronde and a gentleman turned in some of my cards and papers from my wallet that he found on the ground.  Her work expressed mailed all the belongings that were found directly to me. The gentleman who found them was a Christian man.  He contacted me at work to make sure I received everything and to let me know he was praying for me. Expectation vs reality. Realizing strangers do care.

These past few days have been rough. Although it's only stuff, they took items that I worked hard to buy and many that have a lot of personal significance. They broke a window on someone else's vehicle. These are tough realities. Life does not always head in the direction you expect. Lessons are learned. Wisdom is gained. And you either move on or stay stuck in a moment. Expectations can be crushed but the reality can shed light on amazing truths in your life. Do you have times in your life where expectation and reality collide?
